About

Mr Richard Sheridan is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist from London, UK.

Mr Sheridan qualified from Guy's Hospital Medical School in 1979. He then went on to train in Southampton, at Queen Charlotte's Maternity Hospital and then as a registrar and senior registrar at Guy's and at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. In 2015 Mr Sheridan left Watford General Hospital after spending 24 years there as a Consultant and is an examiner for the final membership examination of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Mr Sheridan has a busy private obstetric and gynaecological practice. His private office and secretary are based at Spire Bushey Hospital, where gynaecological in-patients are admitted and gynaecological outpatient appointments and early pregnancy scanning take place. He also has an antenatal clinic at Centennial Medical Care in Elstree in Hertfordshire which is approved and registered by the Care Quality Commission. This unique clinic is the first private facility licensed to provide Maternity & Midwifery services outside of Central London. Traditionally women who wish to have their babies privately have to travel into their chosen Central London hospital for antenatal care however with this unique accreditation, women from Hertfordshire, North London and further afield now have access to a local antenatal service.

Deliveries take place in the Sainsbury Wing at the prestigious Hammersmith Hospital/Queen Charlotte's Maternity Hospital site, with post natal care on Sir Stanley Clayton Ward. For more information please read: Mr Richard Sheridan: first CQC Accredited Obstetrician to Practice outside Central London

Unusually, for an Obstetrician, he works alongside Sarah Denning, an experienced midwife, practising together as The Birth Team (thebirthteam.com) offering all aspects of care during pregnancy and delivery.

In his NHS clinics he was involved in the care of high-risk pregnant women with medical conditions and endocrine problems, as well as other complications of pregnancy. His role included fetal scanning and amniocentesis. With over 20 years experience of labour ward management, he spent time regularly on the labour ward teaching junior doctors how to manage difficult or complicated deliveries.

He is a general gynaecologist, doubly qualified, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists of London. He performs open abdominal surgery, vaginal surgery and keyhole surgery for heavy periods, fibroids, cysts, prolapse and incontinence. He has a large hormone replacement therapy practice and has interests in premenstrual syndrome as well as the menopause.

Mr S has looked after me through both my pregnancies. Both were very different experiences. My first was an easy ride and he was fabulous, but my second was a different story and where he shone. I was plagued with severe hyperemesis gravidarum throughout my whole pregnancy and Mr Sheridan and his team could not have looked after me better. It being such an underrated experience my GP didn’t take it very seriously however after being admitted into hospital for IV fluids I just solely relied on Dr S to care for me and I’m very lucky I did. All my treatments were explained to me with dignity and all decisions were discussed thoroughly and holistically. He is so invested in his patients and has the greatest bedside manner. The other shinning feature of this doctor is the team he has. He somehow has the most fabulous experts in their fields work with him and that gives you a much more holistic management of care. A great doctor and great man. I’m proud to say that this mans hands were the first to hold my babies.

Mr Sheridan is absolutely outstanding, I cannot praise him highly enough! He is highly professional and very experienced which meant that I was able to trust him completely throughout both of my pregnancies/deliveries, knowing that I was in such capable hands. He is a very warm, kind person and has a brilliant sense of humour which really helped, particularly at times when I was feeling anxious. Furthermore, he explains everything very clearly so you are very clear on what is happening and why. My daughter threw up some green vomit after she was born and had to undergo some tests to ascertain the cause of the problem. This was a very upsetting experience but Mr Sheridan could not have been more supportive which really helped and meant a great deal. I will be forever grateful for all Mr Sheridan has done for us, he's just wonderful!

I have been a patient of Mr Sheridan’s for several years now and I wouldn’t want any other consultant treating me. Richard has both operated and provided ongoing treatment where required and his wonderful bedside manner and chirpy character are most reassuring. I would recommend Richard without reservation to anyone considering or needing this type of medical expertise.

Richard and Sarah are both phenomenal. I've gone to them for both my babies and they've made each experience easy, calm and enjoyable. I instantly felt in safe hands with them; they take time to get to know you, explain everything clearly and make sure that you're happy and confident at all times. They are the best.
