Mr Richard Sheridan is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist from London, UK.
Mr Sheridan qualified from Guy's Hospital Medical School in 1979. He then went on to train in Southampton, at Queen Charlotte's Maternity Hospital and then as a registrar and senior registrar at Guy's and at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. In 2015 Mr Sheridan left Watford General Hospital after spending 24 years there as a Consultant and is an examiner for the final membership examination of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Mr Sheridan has a busy private obstetric and gynaecological practice. His private office and secretary are based at Spire Bushey Hospital, where gynaecological in-patients are admitted and gynaecological outpatient appointments and early pregnancy scanning take place. He has an antenatal clinic at Centennial Medical Care in Elstree in Hertfordshire which is approved and registered by the Care Quality Commission for the provision of low risk antenatal care and in the Sainsbury Wing at the Hammersmith Hospital/Queen Charlotte's Maternity Hospital site.
Deliveries take place on the Charlotte's site, with post natal care on Sir Stanley Clayton Ward.
Unusually, for an Obstetrician, he works alongside Sarah Denning, an experienced midwife, practising together as The Birth Team (thebirthteam.com) offering all aspects of care during pregnancy and delivery.
In his NHS clinics he was involved in the care of high-risk pregnant women with medical conditions and endocrine problems, as well as other complications of pregnancy. His role included fetal scanning and amniocentesis. With over 20 years experience of labour ward management, he spent time regularly on the labour ward teaching junior doctors how to manage difficult or complicated deliveries.
He is a general gynaecologist, doubly qualified, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists of London. He performs open abdominal surgery, vaginal surgery and keyhole surgery for heavy periods, fibroids, cysts, prolapse and incontinence. He has a large hormone replacement therapy practice and has interests in premenstrual syndrome as well as the menopause.
