Mr Henderson trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital. His MD research was in the genetics of inherited retinal diseases and he was part of the team that performed the first ocular gene therapy trial in the world.
He subsequently was appointed a clinical fellow at the prestigious Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada, where he gained subspecialty training in paediatric ophthalmology. The following year he moved to the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia where he trained in Adult Vitreo-Retinal Surgery before moving back to Moorfields for a final year of adult and paediatric vitreo-retinal surgery.
He was appointed as a joint consultant between Moorfields Eye Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. He specialises in adult and paediatric vitreo-retinal surgery, complex cataract, and paediatric inherited retinal disease.
