Mr Shashidhar Irukulla (Shashi) is a consultant Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon with private practices in Ashtead, Surrey, Chertsey, and Farnham in the UK. He specializes in laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures, which enable faster recovery time for patients than traditional open surgeries.
Mr Irukulla received his MBBS in 1992 from Gulbarga University in India. He later moved to the UK to complete his speciality training, with bariatric training at St. George’s Hospital in London. He has also received advanced training at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, Australia, and in the UK on the South West Thames rotation. Currently, he serves as the senior Bariatric Surgeon at Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals in Chertsey, UK.
In the last decade, the doctor has developed a particular interest in the treatment of patients with morbid obesity and has undertaken additional extensive training in this area. He has visited various international centres of bariatric surgery excellence in Hamburg, Germany, Bruges, Belgium, and Strasbourg, France in order to further develop his skills in this area.
In his practice, Mr Irukulla has his own well-trained team, including a preparatory dietician, bariatric nurse specialist, and specially-trained anaesthesiologists, all working together to provide patients with a personal and customized comprehensive journey towards their weight loss surgery and goals. The doctor has extensive experience in this area, having performed more than 1,000 successful gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy procedures. His commitment to his patients and a whole-person approach to weight loss surgery has ensured his reputation for excellence and resulted in patients coming to see him from all around the UK, and indeed the world as a whole, including patients who have travelled from Kuwait and Pakistan.
The doctor is also on the cutting edge of medical science, developing new treatment approaches. This includes his own novel approach for endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, which so far has had quite positive results. He has also spearheaded an innovative project at St. Peter’s Hospital on the NHS, setting up an oesophageal manometry/pH monitoring service for patients, to aid in the further diagnosis of reflux problems for patients with ongoing symptoms. These are just some of the reasons why patients from around the globe flock to Mr Irukulla for their GI and weight-loss surgery needs.
