Mr Stephen Blair has over 35 years of experience in pioneering new techniques to treat varicose veins and their complications. This is illustrated by over 60 publications and presentations on varicose veins.
In 1988 I describe the 4 layer bandage which has revolutionised treatment of venous ulcers and is still the gold standard over 30 years later.
In 1994 I first described sequential avulsions instead of stripping which made surgery far less painful, with 35% not even needing a paracetamol after surgery.
In 2000 I started early research into early endovenous treatments such as the V clip and then went on to use thermal methods such as Laser which I stopped doing due to the pain and complications involved.
In 2010 I started using ClariVein ablation and have developed a protocol so that patients can have a procedure taking 30 minutes which is virtually pain free and enables them to drive home and carry on a normal life. I am a leading exponent of this technique in the UK.
In 2018 I started the Liverpool Varicose Veins Clinic which gives high quality specialist care at as cheap a price as possible. The motivation for this is that now, most people can no longer get treatment on the NHS unless they have severe complications due to advances varicose veins.
This clinic offers professional, specialist care for all types of varicose veins in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
I am a family man living locally. I am a trustee of the Rock of Joy Trust ( www.rockofjoy.co.uk ) and we oversee three primary schools in needy parts of Uganda. In addition I do regular medical trips with a joint Ugandan/English team and we go to remote areas where there is no regular medical care. I enjoy sports and play tennis, golf and ski.
