I qualified in pharmacology with basic medical science at University College London (UCL) in 1994. I continued with my medical training at UCL and in 1996 was awarded Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery.

I started specialising in cardiothoracic surgery in 2001. I had a great pleasure to go tthe Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio, USA, as a research fellow in cardiothoracic surgery and undertook research towards my thesis and MD.

In 2004, I returned to the UK as a specialist registrar and in 2009 I became a consultant in cardiac surgery at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

I joined Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals in 2016, working at Harefield Hospital as a consultant cardiac surgeon and became head of deparmtent.

I am an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at Warwick Medical School. I am co-supervisor for PhD students at University of Warwick and Imperial College, London.
