Mr Sunil Kumar is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood, Essex and Spire Roding Hospital in Redbridge, Essex, offering specialist private knee surgery and general orthopaedic surgery. He has a particular interest in sports injuries and has treated sports men and women at various levels.
Mr Kumar undertook his medical training at the London Hospital Medical University, gaining his medical degree in 1989. Following full registration, he undertook his basic surgical training in the London region and obtained his Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He subsequently undertook his specialist orthopaedic training between 1994 and 2000 on the prestigious Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) Training Programme, during which he was awarded the Johnson & Johnson Arthroplasty Fellowship. This was followed by a specialist knee and sports trauma fellowship in New Zealand & Australia in 1999. Between 2010 and 2012, he was appointed the Clinical Director for the Musculoskeletal Service.
Mr Kumar works closely with numerous sports physiotherapists and also with surgeons around the country to bring significant contributions to the field of arthroscopic knee surgery. For sports injuries, Mr Kumar has developed rapid rehabilitation programmes for operations that involved cartilage replacement, but also for patients undergoing reconstruction of the cruciate ligaments.
Mr Kumar's work in the field of knee replacements is very advanced - he individually tailors this treatment option to produce custom total knee replacements which suit the patient's needs in terms of expectations and requirements.
