He is actively involved in teaching other doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

Syed has published widely in a number of peer-reviewed medical journals and is actively involved in research into spinal surgery. He is also a reviewer for submissions relating to spinal surgery for various academic journals. He has presented at national and international conferences.
Syed is the first surgeon in the U.K. to perform robotic-assisted spinal surgery. He has been developing this area and is currently already on the second generation robot. His NHS practice is the first in the U.K. to offer robotic surgery routinely. He believes that innovation and skill is vital to progress and will soon offer this technological leap to private patients also.

My experience with Mr Aftab was excellent. He treated me with respect & dignity. Explained everything in a professional way. The Procedure I had under his care went really well & I’m very thankful to him.

Mr Aftab has a very approachable manner and is reassuring, and balanced in his opinions ie not rushing to surgery before exploring other options. I would say the consultations felt quite rushed, and I’m surprised there was very little in way of physical examination, more just reliance on MRI results. However, he was thorough and certainly listened to my concerns and ordered follow up tests to confirm the disc was the only issue.

Very clear explanation fo the problem the risk and the solutions. Very empathetic and udnerstanding of the effect of my sciatica on the whole person, not just my back. Coupled with his expertise and humility, I regards him as the best, a genius, even. I couldnt have asked for better care, professionalism and pure skill. I can't thanks him enough - he has changed my life.

Mr Aftab gave me confidence that he has read my history and knows what he plans to do in the surgery. This reassures me.

In a summary = Fantastic doctor. Explained everything really well, was always cheerful and friendly. Despite being really scared (and having had bad experience in the past..) of the doctors in the UK (and thats why doing all the procedures in my home country), for the first time I felt I am in capable hands here. I have seen a different Sports Medicine doctor before (who advised me to see Mr SA) and although he was nice, he did not tell me much (just that he sees on MRI I must be in pain), so I was really scared it will be the case with Mr Aftab as well. I was really possitively surprised how professional Mr Aftab is, how much time he takes to explain everything. I also like the fact he smiles a lot, has a lot of positive energy - it gives hope everything will be ok. If you are searching for a doctor to have a spinal injection done - Mr Syed Aftab is your best choice. I could not walk and now I am getting better everyday thanks to the procedure he performed. The only contructive feedback I could give is - please write in the hospital discharge papers what kind of injection I received. It would be useful to have it for my records.

Whenever had dealings with Mr Aftab he has always explained everything fully, answered my questions and have never felt rushed. Rather than rushing straight into surgery Mr Aftab wished to explore all other options which I respect.

Dr Aftab is a very clear, no-nonsense, focused on outcomes. He took me through the diagnostics, treatment options and details quickly and gave me a thorough understanding of what was going on in my back.

Always made himself or his staff available to answer concerns and questions regarding surgery. Was very skilled at breaking down complex medical procedures into laymans terms and moreover considered it a necessity for his patients to understand the mechanics of the treatment involved. Overall very pleasant and respectful.
