Mr Aho is at the peak of his profession

Mr Tev Aho is a wonderful consultant and i am delighted with my treatment and the out come of the HoLEP procedure. No one should hold back from having this procedure which is at the leading edge of enlarged prostate treatment. I am amazed and dismayed that HoLEP has not completely replaced TURPS. Mr Aho deserves enormous praise for bringing this procedure to the UK and championing it for the benefit of patients. Words can not sufficiently express my gratitude

Mr Aho is a caring brilliant surgeon who gave me my normal life back.

Mr Aho was very pleasant, approachable, clear and professional throughout my involvement with him. That in itself was reassuring. I felt in extremely able, skilled and experienced hands throughout. As a consequence of his clear and thorough explanations and advice from beginning to end, I had no unexpected surprises or anything to concern me unnecessarily. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone considering HoLEP.

Mr Aho is a special person and a highly professional consultant. I underwent the Holep procedure at the end of November 2023 after living with a catheter for 8 months following going into urinary retention because of my enlarged prostate. The procedure has been a great success and life is back to normal for me. It goes without saying that Mr Aho is extremely skilled but his empathy, communication and support before during and after treatment has been fantastic and has made the whole experience stress free and actually enjoyable. I also express my thanks to Mr Aho’s team who were similarly supportive and encouraging and to the Nuffield Hospital, Cambridge whose facilities are excellent.

You cannot fail to be impressed by Tev's professionalism and desire to help. I had endured a catheter for 6 months and Tev advised on having HoLEP to relieve and provide the solution to acute urine retention. At our first consultation Tev was sure that this procedure would work. On the day of the the HoLEP Tev explained how he would manage both pre and post-op procedures. All went well and it feels like the HoLEP was life changing in the manner in which it solved my urinary retention and enabled the removal of the catheter. I am very grateful to Tev and would have no hesitation in recommending him.

always difficult to rate 5 stars because the first thing you think is - "could it really be that good". The query in the back of your mind right now as someone reading this (other than Mr Aho I suspect) - and the problem underlying about rating medical professionals - is that you either had a great experience and were cured or you had the worst experience ever because you weren't cured. So, by the rating, the first thing you know is that I was cured. I had a massive prostate in laymen's terms (around 350ml vs the industry standard of 25ml - correct if I am wrong here please) and the HOLEP procedure solved the issue. Simple as that - from having massive and catastrophic urine retention solved with a barbaric piece of plastic hosing shoved down my penis (catheter) and the gift of constant urinary tract infections, to peeing like one of those donkeys on YouTube - the operation was a success. It is of course a shame that I couldn't have this done on the NHS (apologies for the politics) - the waiting list extended to beyond two years and in truth I had a catheter in place for 8 months of hell, so the opportunity to go private (even at the risk of putting myself in debt for the next 10 years) was a decision that not only improved my physical health but also made a significant impact on my mental health too. So all-in-all I wanted to say thank you, thumbs up and a big 5-stars + to Mr Aho and his team. For the record, I had the operation at the Princess Grace Hospital in London (rather than Addenbrookes in Cambridge) and that experience was great too. Fantastic nursing staff and a comfy bed alongside all the right drugs at the right time. I left as I came in, with all my limbs intact but a seriously smaller prostate and one urine and catheter in the bin - forever! I think that anyone reading this is probably asking if this is the right thing for them. HOLEP fixed my problem - the consultation period with Mr Aho and the operation aside which I believe is relatively easy in terms of the operation hierarchy (not aortic reconstruction but equally not wart removal - and not to denigrate the fantastic skills of Mr Aho and his team) was the right decision for me. My alternatives were few but I know that the key alternative of a prostate shave - having seen the same procedure performed on many of my friends and family over the years - was not a palatable prospect. I should also add that as a 56 year old, I am young in the scheme of HOLEP patients so I do have - hopefully - many years left to prove the efficacy of the operation is right.

I am a 76 year old and suffered an extremely enlarged prostate that was too big to be operated on by my local consultant. He referred me to Mr. Aho, which I feel was the best decision he ever made. The treatment from Tev and all his staff was first class and could not have been better. The Holep procedure went without a hitch and was indeed painless. The after care was second to none and he followed up my progress personally until I was well enough to be discharged from his care. I cannot thank him enough and would highly recommend him . Thank you Tev. John L

It was a pleasure to meet Mr Tev Aho who was able to fully reassure me of the procedure which was quickly and successfully carried out. Following the review 5 months later I have the satisfaction of knowing I can contact him if needs be. Though I feel I have fully recovered and that will be unnecessary.

Mr Aho was extremely good at listening to my symptoms and then gave a detailed explanation of my condition. He then explained exactly what would happen in the HoLEP proceedure as well as the risks associated. The operation went exactly as explained. He has a lovely bedside manner and I cannot thank him enough for his expertise.
