Mr Velota Sung studied Medicine at the University of Wales, graduating in 1993. He completed the Specialist Registrar training programme at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and has also worked at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Since 2004, he has been a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. He is currently a full-time consultant at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre – the second biggest teaching unit for Ophthalmology in the UK. Mr Sung also leads a research programme related to the outcomes of complex glaucoma surgeries in children, supervising post-graduate PhD and MD students.
He holds the NHS Clinical Excellence Award, and is the co-founder and current co-secretary for the UK Paediatric Glaucoma Society. Additionally, he is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
