About

Mr Vikas Vedi is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. He has a specific interest in joint replacement and revision surgery, sports injuries to the hip, knee and foot and ankle. He has expertise in minimally invasive joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee, arthroscopic knee surgery and in soft tissues conditions around the hip and knee.

Mr Vedi Is a key opinion leader in the use of biologics to treat various orthopaedic conditions. He was the first surgeon in the UK to use NSTRIDE autologous blood protein injections for the treatment of osteoarthritis in the knee and the first in the world to use the same treatment for osteoarthritis in the hip and ankle. He also has extensive expertise in the use of platelet enriched plasma for various orthopaedic soft tissue conditions. He speaks at meetings both nationally and internationally on this subject as well as teaching other surgeons these techniques.

He was one of the pioneering UK lead surgeons in the Rapid Recovery ProgrammeTM for joint replacement surgery; a patient focused approach to the management of hip and knee replacement patients aimed at improving their experiences and allowing a faster rehabilitation and shorter hospital stay. This programme was adopted by the NHS as ‘enhanced recovery'.

Mr Vedi is a regular speaker on hip and knee surgery at various international meetings and teaches regularly on a number of international courses in hip and knee surgery. To continue his research interests, he was the UK principal investigator for a new technology in knee replacement and has been a surgical evaluator of new prostheses in hip and knee surgery.

Mr Vedi was invited to become a Department of Health Advisor supporting the QIPP Orthopaedic Procurement Best Practice Programme to support the government in its efforts in reducing procurement costs to the NHS specifically focusing on joint replacement surgery.

Mr Vedi graduated from University College London in 1992. His higher surgical training was on the Southwest Thames Orthopaedic rotation. He completed his training in 2004. Duringhis training, he was appointed as the first ever Football Association research fellow and his work led to a number of publications on the kinematics of the knee joint. To complete his training Mr Vedi undertook a prestigious fellowship
in Sydney, Australia. He gained extensive experience in hip and knee arthroplasty and revision hip and knee replacement in a tertiary referral practice both in the young and the elderly as well as with a number of hip and knee pathologies. At the end of his orthopaedic specialist training Mr Vedi was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon for Hillingdon hospitals NHS trust and remained in this position for 17 years before leaving to remain practising in the private sector. During his time in the NHS Mr Vedi was awarded numerous clinical excellence awards for his practice.

Explanation

I am 15 days post op today after my total knee replacement. I have been seeing Mr Vedi for a couple of years and he tried everything before the replacement. He is very informative, knowledgeable, professional and a good bed side manner. I always had 100% faith in Mr vedi and never worried about anything as his kind manner made me relax. I now have a lovely neat scar and my future is so much brighter with my new knee. Physio has started and am walking with one crutch outdoors and nothing indoors. Bravo Mr Vedi

I am so pleased that my GP referred me to Mr Vedi for a total hip replacement. Right from the beginning he explained the whole procedure to me both pre op and post op, and everything went exactly to plan. Mr Vedi is very kind and caring and I knew I was going to be in safe hands. It is such a big relief to be out of pain. I am very grateful to Mr Vedi and his whole team for all their help, caring and kindness.

My thanks to all the members of your teams and staff at your Hospital and Pharmacy. All levels of the above were polite, experienced and exceeded the expectations I had previously envisaged. My hope is that recovery and convalescence are of as brief duration and complete success as predicted. A doctor, anaesthetics, various nurses and assistants, three physiotherapists and the Pharmacy Manager have provided me with the very nest I could imagine capped by the personal attention of your Manager(ess). In particular as mentioned when we last met “Alex” and later on your two most experiences and/or former Nurse’s “attentions” on “night shift”/dietary information/liquid levels were of very high standard even under considerable extra pressures (two extra nights). Hoping that all above continue to be a credit to you and that we meet at any future date including my appointment date.

I am writing as I am most impressed by your easy approach, service and efficient appointment creation. Mr Vedi’s skill and informative manner is most impressive. I am about to walk to the corner shop and think it will be quite easy since there are no side effects with the injection I have had. Again many thanks for an impressive service.

My mother had a knee replacement in September 2022 under the wonderful care of Mr. Vedi and all the nurses. I just wanted to say that at 92 years of age my mother could barely walk or do anything for herself prior to surgery and now she is walking without a stick around the house and is now able to be taken out and about with me again. What I'm trying to say is that if you are well enough and you would like to have the surgery please don't be put off by your age. My mother is now 93 and is enjoying life again

Explanation

I was admitted for replacement hip surgery under the stewardship of Mr Vikas Vedi Consultant Surgeon. Now being on the road to full recovery, it would seem appropriate to appraise my overall experience. It is pleasurable to be able to confirm my complete satisfaction with all aspects of the care given to me. From initial consultation to outpatients and admission all was polite, constructive and reassuring. Furthermore, my inpatient stay was in excess of my expectations, Theatre staff, nursing, physio and domestic arrangements were all precise and delivered in an unobtrusive but reassuring manner. Perhaps, if circumstances prevail, my satisfaction with the professionalism and dedication shown by all I came into contact with, might be brought to their attention. I would add that I am most appreciative and respectful of Mr Vedi’s manner and treatment shown to me during all periods of the recent surgery journey. Mr Vedi’s skill and knowledge has left me with an experience of admiration and great respect. I hope that Mr Vedi may long continue to improve people’s quality of life.

Explanation

After struggling with arthritis with my large toe joints on both feet, I was limited as to which shoes, I could wear that did not cause pain as well as being in a lot of discomfort after playing any sport. I was referred to Mr Vedi who was very approachable. I explained that I was quite active training 4-5 times per week, walking the dog as well as playing squash, tennis, and skiing – I had put off seeing anyone for a few years as the thought of not being able to continue with my sport was forcing me to be in pain rather than risk not being able to continue being active. I decided to go for it and have both feet done at the same time being a bilateral Bunionectomy and Cheilectomy and debridement. I was nervous right up to the point of having the surgery, at no point was I under any pressure to have surgery and Mr Vedi put me very much at ease. I needn’t have had any concerns whatsoever. Recovery time has been so much quicker than I had expected or been advised by friends or friends of friends who all had an opinion. I really did not experience much pain. From the day of the operation, I was in less discomfort than I was pre operation. I am happy to be wearing normal shoes again. My sincere thanks to Mr Vedi
