Mr Chitre is an experienced gastrointestinal, laparoscopic and general surgeon with over two decades of experience as a Consultant at the James Paget University Hospital. His special interests include key-hole surgery for acid-reflux disease, gall stone disease and complex hernias of all types.

In addition to his clinical commitments, Mr Chitre is deputy Medical Director at the James Paget University Hospital and honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of East Anglia's Norwich Medical School. As assessor of MRCS examinations he contributes to quality-assurance of basic surgical examinations in the UK, Ireland and overseas.

Qualifications

After qualifying at the Bombay University and obtaining an MS degree in general surgery, Mr Chitre became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh before successfully completing the Intercollegiate exit examination (FRCS) in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery. He pioneered the introduction of day-case laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic hernia repair at the James Paget University Hospital is now the deputy Medical Director at that hospital.

He obtained an MSc (merit) in Healthcare Leadership by the University of Birmingham. He also holds the 'senior healthcare leadership' and 'executive healthcare leadership' awards of the NHS Leadership Academy.

Mr Chitre is a honorary senior lecturer at the Norwich Medical School and life Patron of the Norwich Undergraduate Surgical Society. He is a member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers and contributes to maintaining standards of surgical training in his role as assessor of MRCS examinations of all 4 Royal Surgical Colleges in the UK and Ireland. Before taking up this role he was an MRCS examiner for many years.
