I was actually dreading having knee replacement surgery but unfortunately had no option as it was effecting my sporting activities. Mr Jamil was a gentlemen, a friendly consultant, who also had a sense of humour, something sometimes lacking in the medical profession. The surgery went well and within 10 days I was off painkillers and only ever used one crutch for 2 weeks. It's now 6 weeks since the operation and my knee is 90-95% OK. I can walk over a mile, no problem and If I can get back to playing football again at 73, then that would make it all worthwhile. If you are in any doubt about Mr Jamil's surgical skills, don't worry, you would be hard pressed to find a better surgeon. Highly recommended.

Our Hero, Mr Jamil. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for never giving up. I commend Mr W. Jamil, orthopaedic surgeon, and his team at Tameside Hospital. Mr. Jamil is a gentleman in a million, and has gone above and beyond the call of duty to provide me with a full hip replacement on 1st July 2018, despite the medical issues I presented with. Myself and my family could never repay him for his sincerity, patience and time. He is a first-class surgeon and a remarkable man. He has given me a quality of life after 20 months on crutches. The pre-op nurses, post-op care on the ward, physios on ward and in the community and Mr. Jamil's admin team members, Katryna Bailey and Karen Warren, have all been part of my journey and deserve a big “thank you”. Tameside Hospital are blessed to have Mr. Jamil and his surgical and admin team on board. They are an orthopaedic jewel in your crown.

My operation was cancelled on 2 occasions.Once by a medical problem and once by lack of water in the operating suite. I was therefore very gratefuf when Mr Jamil agreed to do the operation on Saturday October 6th with a full operating team most of whom I knew from the previous cancellations so that the knee should be better for my New Year holiday. The operation went well . The only part of it I can remember was seeing my leg high in the room. My Jamil came to see me later that evening and on the following day which was very reassuring. Although I stayed in hospital for days my progress afterwards was rapid Mr Jamil was always warm, personable and had a pleasant sense of humour. I look forward to making a full recovery

In my early sixties, I started with knee problems, activities I enjoy became problematic and painful, e.g. shopping, gardening, dancing, keeping fit, etc. The list could go on. To cut to the chase, luckily I was referred to Alexander Hospital, under the care of Mr. Jamil and his team. One year later on after surgery, my life is back on track. God bless them, for the wonderful work they do. Much respect and appreciation.

I have not been a well person for some years now with Arthritis, head trauma following an RTA and the usual getting old symptoms. I had been in agonising pain with my hips and was struggling to walk. About a year ago I was referred to Tameside by my GP and saw a Mr Bari who advised that it was necessary to have replacement hip surgery and I was put on the waiting list. I went to see him periodically and was very impressed by his manner. We built up a good relationship and trust. Whilst waiting for him to operate I was admitted several times with excruciating pain in my stomach and was eventually admitted for removal of my gallbladder in July 2015. Some months later I received a telephone call from the hospital asking if I would accept another surgeon to carry out the hip replacement. I was very disappointed as I did not know him and had built my trust in Mr Bari. As I was in such pain I accepted. I enquired about the new surgeon Mr. Jamil and was directed to his secretary. She told me he was an excellent surgeon and was a lovely doctor. She advised as I had an appointment the following week, two days before surgery to talk to him and discuss my reservations at that time. My reservations and anxiety were soon gone when I met Mr. Jamil. I was immediately impressed with his whole demeanour and he put me at ease within minutes. He answered my extremely personal questions regarding his medical practises and he was the most approachable doctor had ever met. He said he would answer anything! needed to know and I knew I could trust him He explained the whole operation and said if I wanted to know more he would be more than happy to oblige. On the operation day October 1st, 2015 Mr Jamil and his team, who were also extremely competent and sociable, asked me all about my other ailments and accommodated me by putting supports under my neck and body so I would not be sore after the operation. I cannot tell you how much difference it made to me being looked after by such a caring doctor and team. Mr Jamil was there following the operation and he came to see me on the ward the following day to check on everything. The wound was stitched beautifully and healed excellently. The pain in that hip has gone. I went back to see him at the clinic following the 12-week recovery and he was as usual, caring and proficient. I know that the hospital gets some negative reviews so I wanted you to know how happy I am with Mr Jamil, my surgery and the after-care I received. If you had a dozen doctors like Mr Jamil they would be queuing at your doors to be seen. Sincere thanks to Mr Jamil, the operating team, the ward staff following my op and Tameside Hospital staff.

During my stay on this unit, I have to say that I witnessed just how important it is to have an exceptional staff, everyone from the person making tea, the ladies doing the best cleaning job you could wish to see, setting reassuringly high standard. The nursing and care staff, not matter what time of day the standard was there, you were always met with a smile and asked if everything was ok and nothing was to much trouble. I was unfortunate to suffer from septic arthritis meaning that I had to undergo three surgical procedures in eight days, during the time between procedures I was in a great deal of pain and discomfort, the unit doctors made sure that I was cared for and kept as pain-free as possible. Every member of this team made an impression, from my consultant Mr Jamil right down to the tea lady, I have never said “thank you" so many times, to so many people and yet I still feel that I need to say one last BIG “Thank you”. Would you please express from both myself and my partner Lee how grateful we both are for the care provided on the EOU. Well done to you ALL.

I am aged 68 and I had severe pain in my hip. I met Mr Jamil at Tameside Hospital who is a consultant. He was the most courteous and approachable doctor I have ever met. I was soon admitted for Hip replacement surgery and put at ease. He and his team asked me all about my ailments, back pain, spondylosis, shoulder pain and arthritis and assured me they would put supports and padding under these pressure points to help so my pain following surgery would not be worse. After surgery Mr Jamil was at my bedside ensuring my wound was looked after. My aftercare and pain management was excellent and the scar healed beautifully. I have nothing but praise for my whole procedure.

I wanted to write to you regarding my recent experience in hospital. I had a full knee replacement. Forgive me for the length of time it has taken to write as it took a while to recover, then with Christmas and New Year the weeks have carried on. Everyone was caring, considerate and wonderful. From the receptionist who kept me updated as to when I could expect the operation to be. The nurses in pre-op who covered everything regarding my medical history. The anaesthetist who discussed the best way forward and the excellent care pre the operation. I also mentioned I’d love a cup of tea and there was one there as soon as I came out of the operation. They were lovely. Mr Jamil and his surgical team were excellent, explaining everything that would happen during the operation and what to expect afterwards. Which meant I knew exactly what to expect with timescales afterwards. The sisters and nursing staff were all lovely and have wonderful care as I recovered. Also the aftercare nurse who phoned me at home was well informed and I was able to ask her questions. The physio go me up and about in the hospital and continued with outpatient physio. This informed me what I could do and how to move about. I have nothing but praise for all the staff I have come in contact with who made the experience as painless as possible.
