Mr Zachariah Koshy is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Ayrshire and Glasgow. He first qualified in 1994 and has 25 years of experience in ophthalmology with a special interest in surgical and medical retina treatments. His practice uses the latest research in these areas providing the full range of modern high-quality treatments for retinal pathology.
Mr Koshy has published and presented on the technique of suture less vitrectomy as well as retinal diagnostic protocols. Suture less vitrectomy is a technique with a generally faster and more comfortable recovery than conventional surgery, and most cases are done under local anaesthetic. Mr Koshy also has years of experience in cataract surgery, including complex cataract surgery, and has provided training on cataract surgery courses. He has published and presented on ophthalmic anaesthesia and carries out cataract surgery under topical (no needle) anaesthesia.
Mr Koshy is actively involved in teaching and teaches ophthalmologists, optometrists and nurses in courses and seminars. He has written teaching material and modules for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a member of the West of Scotland Post Graduate Training Committee. In addition he is faculty on the Royal College of Ophthalmologist Microsurgical Course and the European School of Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology.
Mr Koshy is a well-published researcher and has contributed to multi-centre research trials. He is currently the principal investigator in a trial investigating diabetic macular oedema.
