About

Andrea Wright obtained her degree in physiotherapy with a clinical distinction in 1995. She has worked for several years in large teaching hospitals around London, such as St Thomas’, Kings College and St George’s.

During her career, she began training in a very powerful technique called myofascial release, which she is now using extensively with her patients, which addresses the whole person. In the years that followed, she consolidated her knowledge and training in body-mind medicine to complement a more holistic approach to health and wellness.

After opening her own practice in central London and later in Bath, Andrea started working full-time in private practice both in the corporate and clinical setting and to date, has a vast experience totalling over 16 years specialising as a musculoskeletal clinician. Additionally, she has had more than 6 years experience in the corporate sector as a consultant ergonomist, working both as an in-house DSE assessor and manual handling trainer.

Andrea continues to expand and enhance her knowledge as best as possible and to this end. She continues to do substantial practiced-based research in and around the field of connective tissue science and somatic disciplines.

Andrea is informative explaining the injury and more importantly the potential to repair, reassuring, and provided a very clear remedial plan with simple exercises. I am making solid progress on my injury over weeks. This is a repeat injury which took years to recover previously.

Andrea is very kind and caring. She listens well to your symptoms and really knows the body and how it should work. When on the bed I felt very looked after and her explanation of what she was doing was very retailed. I went away feeling confidant and was given lots of exercises to help with my treatment.

Andrea is great. Very welcoming and I got a great in-depth, verbal consultation before she started on some body work. She gave me some rehab exercise homework to do and I have already made a follow up appointment. Would definitely recommend Andrea if you need some physio work

I recently had three treatments, bi-weekly, for a knee injury after playing football. Having had Physiotherapy before I thought I knew what to expect from possible treatment, however Andrea comes at this from a very different way from any previous physio I had had. First by educating me as a patient, then treatment and finally by giving me tools to help myself not only during my time between therapy but also for future use in prevention. For example; By explaining in simple terms the theory of connective tissue, that all things in your body are connected (makes sense, huh?!), it helped me understand that I had been progressively damaging my right leg even before I had received the injury to my knee. I had brushed off cramping in my right thigh as just "one of those things" however Andrea helped me to realise that, by predominantly standing on my left leg, I was damaging my right, by keeping my muscles in a contracted state. So when attempting to extend the muscle it would cramp. This I would have never thought of being an issue as we naturally stand one way or another. I now walk differently, stand equally on both legs most of the time and can already feel the benefit of doing so. As for the treatment to my knee, everything is connected. So the better by body was responding to the adjustments we were making to my stance and stride, along with exercises to target the knee specifically, the better my knee was becoming. I highly recommend Andrea as a therapist. Her rates are competitive, she is educated, friendly and extremely talented. Alan.

I was extremely happy with Andrea's treatment. I saw her for a wrist injury which had troubled me on and off for more than six months. Her treatment took into account my rehabilitation goals and constraints on my time. She prescribed some very easy to follow exercises that made a huge difference to my injury. After three treatments over about a five week period, I can now bear weight on my injured wrist without pain.

My experience with you was excellent. You are very knowledgeable, professional and personable. I felt very comfortable sharing how I felt, physically and mentally, and the combination of talking, massage and exercises was perfect. I would definitely recommend your services for anyone wanting to keep their body (and subsequently often their mind) in check. It's important to be aware of your body, its habits, its niggles, its posture, etc. and you facilitate this process. I found my experience with you very healing.

The treatment made me feel relaxed, very well looked after, pummelled! The atmosphere and setting and attitude were perfect, it made the treatment a special and rewarding experience which left me feeling aligned, inspired and motivated to heal myself through the exercises I was shown.

I first visited Andrea after a recurrence of an old problem with my foot / lower leg. After listening to my rather lengthy explanation, she had me perform a number of short exercises (squats, single leg raises, etc.) in order to diagnose the problem. She very quickly homed in on the fact that my left side, generally, was much weaker than my right. She explained herself clearly and was able to demonstrate her findings empirically, by having me take note of how each leg performed when carrying out certain exercises. Her approach is very much hands-on, placing much attention on the mechanics of the body and how any problem may respond to targeted massage of the muscles/tissue/tendons. This is quite a different technique to that of other physiotherapists and one which I believe to be effective in both initial diagnosis and long term results. After a single visit, I was given a set of exercises to perform on a daily basis. Subsequent visits were used to check progress and adjust the exercise routine as necessary. Now, a few months later, I feel that a great deal of progress has been made. I run and cycle regularly and it has now been quite some time since I had any problems. I think that Andrea gave an accurate diagnosis and put in place a series of (short) exercises that addressed the problem. I would recommend her services, not only because of her ability and professionalism, but also because she is an amiable person and can clearly convey her findings to the patient.

On several occasions I have myself injured usually through trying to do too much too soon or by overdoing some activity. On one of these occasions I turned to Andrea through her practice at the YMCA. Andrea not only treated injuries following a thorough assessment but provided with guidance on how to progress the recovery myself and prevent further injury in the future. She brings a wealth of experience to her practice and freely shares her knowledge with her patients. Follow her advice and take the time to the exercises she'll give you - both between sessions and beyond - and you'll be fine. I have a great trust in Andrea born out of experience.

My right arm and shoulder felt stiff and painful before the treatment with Andrea. I felt comfortable and relaxed during the treatment and I let Andrea work with some of the more 'difficult' parts of my body. I was aware of changes in the body taking place and felt tired afterwards. I had increased mobility, far less pain and felt lighter the following day.

I cannot praise Andrea enough, in just two sessions she successfully treated a wrist injury I had been carrying for over a year. As we all know small persistent injuries can be the most frustrating and hardest to treat. The injury to my wrist had not only stopped me playing squash but had also been a constant discomfort day to day, affecting me psychologically as well as physically. Simple tasks – chopping vegetables, typing on the computer...etc, became a constant reminder that something was wrong, I’m not alright and, I’m not getting better. Andrea’s treatment immediately set me on the path to recovery. Her skill and knowledge are apparent, her manner is attentive and personal, and her treatments gave results. Andrea’s professional trajectory over many years, incorporating new techniques to her traditional training, meant she quickly diagnosed and effectively treated me. Should you be unlucky enough to require a physiotherapist I highly recommend Andrea.’

I went to Andrea for two reasons. Firstly I was having a lot of instability in my knee and secondly I had seen from her website that Andrea's worked with the fascia, and this was of interest to me in my own work as a reflexologist. During my treatments Andrea worked many parts of my body often a long way from the knee, but I could feel areas were being released which in turn helped the tissues around the knee structure. Following the main treatment I was then given exercises that I could do at home to help loosen up the area around my knee, each time being able to work a little deeper. I had 5 treatments over a couple of months and by the end I felt a lot more confident when weight bearing with that knee. Not only had the knee improved but also a lot of stiffness from my feet. I continue to do some of the exercises I was given so that the area does not seize up again. Everything was clearly explained so that the treatment made sense. I can thoroughly recommend Andrea, with her background as a physiotherapist and the fascia work I feel I had a unique treatment which got to the root of my problem
