Chhaya Shah is an established and accredited psychotherapist, working both privately, and in the NHS. Based in West London, her clients include adults, couples, young people and families, including people from the armed forces. Chhaya has a particular interest in helping people affected by trauma, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), domestic violence and childhood sexual abuse, phobias, bullying, forced marriage, terrorism, fighting or fleeing war, and those dealing with asylum and immigration issues. She has worked with lawyers to write psychological assessments and has attended court hearings as an expert witness.
Thanks to Chhaya’s bilingual ability, she is experienced in working with ethnic minorities and offers sessions in both fluent Gujarati and English. She utilises a relational, holistic approach with clients to address unprocessed life events and understands how the mind and body affect each other using a wide range of therapies. These include Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TFCBT), Emotional Freedom Technique and Life Coaching. She also works in a more exploratory way to address past experiences that may be stopping people from moving forward with their lives, particularly with issues such as bereavement, work stress, relationships and ill health. Chhaya has extensive experience working with clients to reduce anxiety, distress and depression, without having to verbalise particularly overwhelming and traumatic experiences, using many of the above modalities. These methods culminate in a positive psychological approach, encouraging clients to make emotional and behavioural changes in order to build up self-esteem and improve their mood.
With 15 years of experience in Complementary and Holistic Therapies, thanks to her role as Founder and Director of Soothing Touch Academy and Therapies, Chhaya is also well versed in pathology and works with cancer patients and their families, as well as other chronic, long-term conditions, such as diabetes and heart and lung disorders.
Due to her versatility, Chhaya is able to offer Clinical Supervision to trainee and qualified therapists, using their model, whilst putting forward her own reflections in order to bring richness and depth to the supervision process.
Chhaya operates a successful private practice with clinics located in Twickenham and Ealing; she also provides her services via Skype and telephone and is available weekdays from 10am to 9pm
