About

Ms Sonia Chachan is a Consultant Gynaecologist. She practices privately as part of the Reproductive Health Group and for the NHS at Stepping Hill Hospital. She first trained in India, at the University of Kolkata, and underwent further specialist training in the United Kingdom. She has a wide general scope within gynaecology, and holds a lead role for hysteroscopy and colposcopy within the department at Stepping Hill Hospital. Some of the surgical procedures she has trained in include laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

Some of Ms Chachan’s special clinical interests include the management of women with menstrual disorders, as well as pelvic pain and problems with the cervix, such as abnormal smears. Her ‘one-stop’ clinic is geared towards the treatment and investigation of these problems, with the intention of minimising the number of visits necessary.  She is also interested in the academic side of Gynaecology, regularly attending academic conferences. She is actively involved in the training and education of nurses, GPs and junior doctors.

Ms Chachan has a membership of the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, the British Menopause Society, and the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy. She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Dr Chachan is very direct and honest about her approach in treating patients She is very accurate and helpful, she gives the best advice and the correct level of reassurance. Thank you to her. However, I was disappointed in the reception team on the 13/11 around 17:45 I presented myself 15 mins before my appointment for 6pm I was told to wait in area B until 18.10 pm I went back to reception to ask if DR chachan was aware that Iam waiting, they informed me with no apology, a lady in reception with dark long hair looks under her glasses and said that Dr chachan changed rooms she is now in area c ? When I was told to knock on DR chachan door she informed me that they told her I was not there all together ? Dr chachan apologised on behalf of their incompetence. I found the ladies on reception rude and not really keen on being there typing away and making us wait a while (spire hospital).

Dr Chachan is very knowledgeable but at the same time friendly and approachable. She patiently discuss thoroughly the diagnosis, ensuring that the patients leave the room with a clear understanding of what is gong on. She seems keen in education and empowering patients to make the right choices for themselves and I think that incredibly valuable from a specialist physician. I highly recommend her.

Overall satisfied with my experience. Dr Chachan explained things well & asked pertinent questions. I feel satisfied that relevant possible issues were explored and ruled out. A couple of things in the letters to my GP were wrong though. The first said I complained of excess hair growth - in fact it was excess hair loss. The second said my C section scar looked normal - I have never had a C section.
