A brand new service which helps young patients with their allergies has opened at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. The Paediatric Allergy Clinic, based at North Manchester General Hospital was the idea of Dr Mudiyur Gopi, Consultant Paediatrician. Before this, families had to travel to the centre of Manchester to access allergy services. This new clinic brings care closer to home, providing a welcome and valuable local service to children and parents in the North Manchester area. LiA was the vehicle used to galvanise staff around Dr Gopi's idea, and influence the 'powers that be' of its merits. At the outset, the clinic will run twice a month under the direct supervision of Dr. Gopi and his team. The clinic will cater to the needs of children with a wide range of allergic disorders, and the focus will be to offer a comprehensive care package from diagnosis to testing and treatment. In many cases, this will avoid the need for further referrals. Dr Gopi said: “Setting up a Paediatric Allergy Service is a big step in the right direction by our hospital Trust. I am confident of the positive benefits this service will offer to a large number of children and their families in our locality. This has to be a milestone in the Trust’s achievements and it would not have been possible without LiA”. A parent who attended the clinic said: “The service at the clinic was excellent and ideal for children. I really cannot fault the treatment at all as everything was explained clearly by staff who couldn’t do enough for you. The paediatric allergy clinic is fantastic and I would recommend it straightaway to other children and parents”.
