Professor Nienaber is a certified internist, cardiologist and interventional cardiovascular specialist with significant experience in advanced cardiovascular care.
He started his academic career at University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf, then undertaking a temporary post at UCLA School of Medicine. From there he chaired internal medicine and cardiology at Universitätsmedizin Rostock until May 2015 when he joined the Consultant team at Royal Brompton Hospital.
Professor Nienaber has a long-standing record as an academic teacher and international lecturer. He has published more than 500 peer-reviewed scientific papers, a number of book chapters and serves on the editorial boards for a selection of journals.
He established the first integrated “Marfan-Clinic” at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf and is a founding member of the International Registry of Aortic Dissection (IRAD).
