Professor Davis holds his NHS appointment at the prestigious Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham and works in the world renowned arthroplasty unit, where he is the Clinical Service Lead. He sees private patients at The Ramsay West Midlands Hospital, The Ramsay Stourside Hospital, The Spire Little Aston and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital private wing.
Professor Davis graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 1996 and undertook his basic and higher surgical training in the West Midlands rotation. He undertook a years fellowship in revision hip and knee arthroplasty in Toronto, Canada, under the tutelage of Professor Whadell and Professor Schemitsch. He was appointed to the position of Honorary Professor at the University of Birmingham Medical School in 2015.
Professor Davis is an expert in the management of patients with hip and knee problems that require surgical replacement or revision of joint replacements and is requested to lecture both nationally and internationally, to other surgeons on the techniques he uses.
Professor Davis is a recognised expert in the use of robotic assisted surgery and computer navigation, which improves the precision in which these operations can be performed. He is a self-confessed perfectionist, which has led him into the field of robotic assisted surgery and computer navigation in an effort to improve the long term outcomes for his patients. He performs a wide range of different replacements using differing techniques and different types of hip and knee implants to match the specific requirements of the needs of each individual.
Professor Davis is also an expert in revision hip and knee replacement. He sees patients with worn-out or painful hip and knee replacements and uses a number of different procedures including the latest techniques and materials to restore patients function and abilities.
Professor Davis holds an MSc in Trauma and a postgraduate certificate in medical education as well as the FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics). He leads in many areas of training for both undergraduates and qualified staff. He is actively involved in
education and currently holds the title of Head of Academy at The Royal
Orthopaedic Hospital, co-ordinating all undergraduate medical education. He is also the module lead for orthopaedics at the University of Birmingham as well as being the clinical service lead for orthopaedics at Aston University Medical School.
Professor Davis has a strong research background in both clinical and basic research, with over 50 national and international presentations. He has been invited faculty at national and international meetings on hip and knee replacement; hip and knee revision surgery and the use of robotic assisted surgery and computer navigation to improve outcomes for patients. He was the lead surgeon designer in hip and knee replacements for one of the world's largest computer navigation companies (BrainLab) in devising and using the navigation system. He has also undertaken numerous research projects with the system, which have been published in top peer reviewed journals. He also works closely with orthopaedic implant companies in developing computer navigation in hip replacement and knee replacement in research, in an effort to improve patient's outcomes following the surgery. Professor Davis is currently co-lead of a multi-million pound research project in the use of
robotic assisted surgery to improve outcomes for patients.
