A pioneer of paediatric Dermatology, Professor John Harper is recognised worldwide as a pre-eminent authority on skin diseases in children. He is currently Professor of Paediatric Dermatology at the institute of Child Health, University College London and is honorary consultant at the renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Throughout his career, John Harper has translated research at the laboratory bench into improved outcomes for his young patients. After graduating from St Mary's Hospital, University of London, in 1973, he obtained his doctorate, studying the immunology of skin disease.
He continues his world-class research into the skin biology of children to this day, and is the author of the internationally recognised gold-standard textbook in the field. He has over 150 peer-reviewed papers to his name.
He was the founder Secretary and Chairman of the British Society for Paediatric Dermatology and held presidency of the European Society of Paediatric Dermatology from 1993 to 1996.
