Professor Trimble has been a professor of behavioural neurology and a Consultant Physicians for many years. He studied general medicine, especially cardiology and then went on to advance his training in neurology and psychiatry. He undertook an internship in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore prior to following neuropsychiatry.

He has set up a research group with interest in the interface disorders between neurology and psychiatry, reflected in the developing recognition of neuropsychiatry and behavioural neurology as independent disciplines.

His current writing and academic interest involve teaching and lecturing on neuroanatomical concepts relevant to understanding behaviour and its variations.
