Professor Simon Taylor is a Professor of Opthalmology at the University of Surrey and a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a special interest in cataracts, glaucoma and retinal disease. He graduated with a first from the University of Cambridge to obtain his medical degree before training as an ophthalmic surgeon at the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital. His research training was at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre and he was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London in 2009. He completed his ophthalmology training as a Clinical Lecturer at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and at Moorfields Eye Hospital having been selected for a prestigious Fellowship training programme at both Moorfields and Harvard Medical School.
Professor Taylor was appointed joint Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology and Director of Research & Development for the Royal Surrey County Hospital in 2014, and Professor of Ophthalmology in 2015. He runs an extensive research programme of clinical trials and laboratory research supported by the National Institute of Health Research and other grant-awarding bodies.
Professor Taylor treats patients with many ophthalmic problems but has a particular interest in retinal disease and in cataract and glaucoma surgery. He has an international reputation in the treatment of retinal and inflammatory ocular diseases having lectured widely on these subjects and has published over 100 academic papers.
