Dennis Kosuge was born and brought up in Hong Kong to a Chinese father and a Japanese mother. He left Hong Kong for the United Kingdom in 1997 to study medicine at the University of Nottingham. After spending a year as a house officer at the Gloucestershire Royal Infirmary, he enrolled on the two-year basic surgical rotation at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. It was during this time that he developed his love for Trauma & Orthopaedics and subsequently spent six months at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. This was followed by a year as an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellow at The Royal London Hospital after which he embarked upon his higher surgical training on the North-East Thames Percivall Pott Orthopaedic Training Programme. During his training, he was based at The Royal London Hospital but also spent time at other centres including Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital once again. He developed his subspecialist interest in lower limb arthroplasty during higher surgical training as a result of being inspired by a number of trainers he worked for. Upon completion of his orthopaedic training, he pursued this interest in the form of a one year fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty with Professor Donald Howie at The Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia.
